Our Lady of Vailankanni High School is managed by Mothers Education Trust, a trust duly registered under the Bombay Public Trust’s Act. It was founded by Shri. John Wren De Silva and Smt. Sally J De Silva in the year 1982. Shri. De Silva was from an engineering background and Smt. De Silva is an educationist.
There was a dearth of schools in the locality of Borivali West and with the prodding of some well-wishers the school started its humble beginnings up to Std. I in shops (galas) at Jairaj Nagar, Borivali W. The inaugural year saw just four students in Std. I
The school soon grew in numbers as more and more admitted their wards to study here. So much so that it was no longer possible to conduct classes in the shops where the school began.
Funds were scarce and with whatever funds the Trustees could manage through borrowing and other means, a plot of land was purchased for the school in the year 1987. However, this land happened to be in the Non-Development Zone and hence minimal construction was allowed by then Dy. Municipal Commissioner. The school shifted to the new premises in 1990 and continues to exist here.
We are a small school and are involved not only with the students but also the parents and try our best to accommodate and connect with everyone for the betterment of the community. In the small ground floor structure that we have, we have still managed to install a fully equipped Science Lab, a Computer Room and a Library.
We do have plans to improve infrastructure and hopefully will be able to do so when all provisions of DCR 2034 come into force. But we will still continue to be a small school because we like it this way. We like staying connected with all in our community.
Most of our students are well-placed professionals like doctors, engineers, etc. Some are placed with multinationals and some have even settled abroad. They and their parents are happy with the efforts of this school in shaping their children’s lives.
That is what we are here for – moulding the little minds – to better their future and the future of our country and the world at large.
